Barry’s most recently honoured citizen, Dilys Colbourne, awarded the MBE in the Queens Birthday Honours, has been recognised by Pride In Barry and becomes the second Pride In Barry Ambassador.

At a recent Pride In Barry meeting, Dilys agreed to become an Ambassador and was presented with a Certificate by Pride In Barry Chairman Paul Haley.

Paul Haley said, “Everyone involved with Pride In Barry is absolutely delighted at your award in Her Majesty The Queen’s Birthday Honours, and we are equally delighted that you have agreed to be an Ambassador. Your efforts in serving the community of Barry for over 30 years and ensuring the survival and restoration of Central Park and Barry Town Hall & Library are an inspiration.”

Speaking at the presentation, Dilys Colbourne said, “I am delighted to agree to becoming an Ambassador as I am keen to help improve the image of Barry and encourage people to appreciate the wonderful environment all around us. I hope that my community work over the past 30 years has benefited Barrians, and that others will join me as an Ambassador to promote and enhance the opportunities our wonderful Town offers.”

Dilys joins Commonwealth Gold Medal Winner swimmer Barry-man David Davies in becoming an Ambassador for Barry.

Paul Haley, speaking to the newspaper, said, “We believe that Dilys plays a vital role in the regeneration of Barry through inspiring Barrians to be actively involved, and through continuing to promote our Town. We are looking for other Barrians to become Ambassadors and would encourage people to look at our website for details www.prideinbarry.co.uk and contact us.”

The exciting Ambassador scheme aims to create Ambassadors, across a broad range of ages and sectors. Ambassadors are people with a pride in their Town who are prepared to stand up and shout loudly about the strengths, characteristics and opportunities of our wonderful Town of Barry – a great place to live, work and visit.

Gold Medal Winner David Davies becomes first-ever Pride In Barry Ambassador

Pride In Barry is delighted to announce that Commonwealth Gold Medal Winner David Davies has become the first ever Pride In Barry Ambassador.

Following Barry-man David Davies success in the recent 2006 Commonwealth Games, Barry Town Council hosted a Civic Reception on Wednesday 12 April as a tribute to the Barry swimmer.

Winning Gold with the fastest ever British & European swim, Davies gave an inspirational performance that built on his success in the World Championships and Olympics.

At the Civic Reception, David agreed to become the first-ever Pride In Barry Ambassador.

Pride In Barry Vice-Chairman, Paul Goodwin said, “We believe that David can play a vital role in the regeneration of Barry through inspiring young Barrians, and through continuing to promote our Town at the International Events in which he competes.”

He added, “Everyone involved with Pride In Barry is absolutely delighted at David’s success in the 2006 Commonwealth Games. Well done from Pride In Barry!”

Newydd Housing Association becomes latest Pride In Barry Ambassador Sponsor

Pride In Barry is delighted to announce that Newydd Housing Association has agreed to sponsor the Community Ambassador Award.

This exciting scheme aims to create Ambassadors, across a broad range of ages and sectors. Ambassadors are people with a pride in their Town who are prepared to stand up and shout loudly about the strengths, characteristics and opportunities of our wonderful Town of Barry – a great place to live, work and visit.

In announcing the new sponsors, Paul Haley, Chair of Pride In Barry, said, “We are absolutely delighted that Newydd Housing Association has recognised the potential of this Scheme, and has agreed to sponsor the Community Ambassador Award.”

He added, ”This will be presented to people or organisations that by their example and inspiration are promoting a spirit in the community and leading the way in encouraging a civic pride in Barry.”

Newydd Chief Executive Paul Roberts said, "Newydd believes in working in partnership to establish successful communities, and we recognise the potential of the Ambassador Award Scheme for building positive community spirit. We are therefore delighted to sponsor the Community Ambassador Award."

The Pride In Barry Ambassador Awards 2006 offer a unique opportunity for the business community to support achievement and be associated with the success of Barry. Pride In Barry are seeking other individuals and organisations to come forward to sponsor other annual awards available as part of this Scheme which are detailed on www.prideinbarry.co.uk website

This Ambassador Scheme culminates in an Annual Prize giving night to recognise achievement, and to bring together the community and the visionary sponsors of the Awards.
